PMA ANNOUNCES SALE OF FIVE
O’CLOCK LIGHTNING: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE 1927 NEW YORK YANKEES
Peter
Miller of PMA Literary & Film Management, Inc. is pleased to announce the
sale of a book tentatively titled FIVE
O’CLOCK LIGHTNING: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF THE 1927 NEW YORK YANKEES by
Harvey Frommer to Stephen Power, Senior Editor
at John Wiley and Sons in a nice deal.
The book will cover
the entire 1927 season beginning in the winter of 1926 as players and
management personnel engage in the “off-season.” Spring training in 1927
and the ebb and flow of the entire season will be recounted in telling
detail climaxing with the sweep of the Pirates by the Yankees in the World
Series.
Those 1927 Yankees
featured stars of stars like Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Bob Meusel,
Earle Combs, Tony Lazzeri, Waite Hoyt, Herb
Pennock, manager Miller Huggins and owner Jake Ruppert. The on- the-field
and off-the-field exploits of these and other members of the team will be
given up-close treatment. The interplay of the team and the City of New
York in that “Jazz Age” year will be a special, colorful element of the
project as will selected examples of “oral history.”
Harvey Frommer is the
author of 34 sports books, including four with a direct focus on the
Yankees: "New York City Baseball," "The New York Yankee Encyclopedia," "A
Yankee Century,” ”Red Sox Vs. Yankees: The Great Rivalry” He wrote for
the Yankees for almost two decades. The prolific Frommer will be the
Keynote Speaker at the SABR (Society for American Baseball, Research)
conference in Cleveland next month and will be teaching “The Culture of
Baseball” at Dartmouth College in the fall.
