Lighthouse Villas Guests
As you explore "The Bay," you will find several beachfront restaurants which are perfect for dining out. In addition, water sports equipment and excursion trips are also available. (See Glen's Cane Garden Bay Watersport Rentals.)
The Welcome Magazine, published by the BVI Tourist Board is an excellent source of information for visitors including shopping, sightseeing, dining, and more. You can pick up a free copy at the airport when you arrive.
Live music and entertainment is available in Cane Garden Bay daily. Myett's on the beach has music on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Quito's Gazebo has a reggae band on Fridays and Saturdays, and Quito Rymer plays acoustically on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
Currency: Most businesses take credit cards, all accept U.S. Traveler's checks, and only U.S. Currency is taken. ATM machines are available in Road Town.
Travel: All taxi fares are based on a point to point rate and are less expensive if there are four or more fares. There are a number of reputable car rental agencies as well such as Del's Car and Jeep Rental. Del provides free hotel pickup and dropoff, free roadmaps, and has a variety of new and late model cars and jeeps.
Local customs and folkways: The indigenous population of the British Virgin Islands are known as B.V. Islanders, West Indians, or "Locals."
Most conversations start with "good morning," or "good evening," or "good night." "Good night" is a greeting not to be confused with retiring for the evening. It is appropriate to ask permission before photographing "local people."
Dress: Nearly all restaurants allow you to dine in casual attire (shorts, shirt, shoes, sundresses, slacks, etc.) During the day beach attire is fine in the beachfront establishments, however, a tee-shirt or cover-up is appreciated. In the evening, jogging shorts, swimwear, etc., is inappropriate. Dress in Road Town should be the same as evening dress in "The Bay" even during daylight hours.
The Lighthouse: Sand is wonderful on the beach, but a pain in the neck in one's bed. Please "de-sand" as best as possible prior to entering your villa. Footbaths are placed by the entryways. Use sunscreen for your protection, but please apply it in the bath areas or balconies. Please avoid contact with sunscreen or wet swimwear on furniture. Each villas has an ashtray. Please confine cigarette or cigar smoking to balcony areas.
Conservation of water and electricity: Please try to conserve as best you can. Our electricity rates are among the most expensive in the world. Try to remember to turn off interior lights when you go out. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated.
