one of the most beautiful books ever produced by a company
that has produced many beautiful books. Page after page in
brilliant, bold, color unfolds as one becomes mesmerized by
the magnificence of this opulent opus. We are there with
enjoying twenty storied venues like the New York Yacht Club,
the Hong Kong Yacht Club, the Yacht Club de France and on
and on. Yachting’s culture is on display and the reader
(viewer) is all the better for it. MOST NOTABLE.
"Spectacular Scotland" by James Gracie
(Universe/Rizzoli, $24.95, 140 pages) is as its title notes
lays claim to one of the most incredible and beautiful
places on the globe. We experienced it, and know firsthand
of what we speak. This splendid art book showcases 150
magnificent photos of people and places.
|Glasgow and Edinburgh are highlighted but
so are many unique places that never get the up close and
personal treatment. Author Gracie knows his subject well,
and we are all the better for it as the nation's wondrous
coastline, its islands and beaches and stone walls,
highways and byways all are there for us to see and to read
about. If you have never been to Scotland, this book takes
you there. If you have experienced this unique
country, "Spectacular Scotland" takes you back. A MEMORABLE
NOTABLE FROM NORTON: “The Southern
Journey of Alan Lomax” by Tom Piazza, $35.00 is an
exceptional piece of work melding words, photographs,music
in the form of a CD that has a dozen songs by artists
photographed in the book. The work is essentially a
celebration and a documentation of Alan Lomax’s recording
trip through the American South of the late fifties. Lomax
recorded 80 hours of music and conversation and took
incredible photographs that complemented that voyage. This
is a book to buy, to savor, to keep.
