Farallon Restaurant - San Francisco

Everywhere you turn in San Francisco, you will find a restaurant. From Italian and Greek to Irish and Mexican, each restaurant offers a different flair.
Farallon - Click to Enlarge Farallon, located on Post Street, is a unique seafood restaurant that resembles an underwater sea adventure with tentacles on the bar stools, jellyfish lamps and a floor mirroring the bottom of the ocean.

We sampled the fried Monterey calamari ($14.50), which was crispy and plentiful. The Dungeness Crab Gratin ($15.75) was loaded with tender chunks of fresh crabmeat.

The open-air kitchen affords guests a clear view of the chef preparing each meal. Each table has a small arrangement of fresh flowers. For guests who prefer a more secluded dinner, reserve the private wine room, just off the main dining room.

Dinners here need some work. The seared Maine scallops ($29) arrived with just four small scallops. The grilled export A beef ($34) had quite a bit of fat and was difficult to cut.

This restaurant would be the perfect place for drinks and some appetizers while the main entrees need some fine tuning.

Dinner: Sunday-Wednesday, 5:30 to 10:30 p.m.; Thursday-Saturday, 5:30 to 11 p.m.
Bar: Sunday, 5 p.m. to midnight; Monday-Wednesday, 11 a.m. to midnight; Thursday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Full menu served at the bar during dinner hours.
